OPPO Chang'an R&D Center, China

Chinese mobile phone manufacturer OPPO has broken ground on a new research and development (R&D) center in the heart of China’s Silicon Valley. OPPO is a leading global smartphone brand, dedicated to providing products infused with art and innovative technology. Expected to house 5,000 R&D personnel, the Oppo's new Chang'an R&D centre will be responsible for the R&D, design and testing of a range of smart devices.

Designed by architecture firm KPF, the Chang'an R&D center will spans over five city blocks and cover an area of approximately 82,000m². It will feature 10 all-glass towers, including a 250-meter tall office tower with sky hall, a talent development center, an R&D center, a mobile internet research center, a testing center, an OPPO college, a floating exhibition ring, and seven residential and serviced apartment towers. The new research center will serve as global R&D engine for the company.

Designed as a series of interconnected circles in the plan, the campus establishes a strong sense of connectivity and accessibility. The central portions of the circles are always left as voids, affording various functions to take place: atria with vertical circulation, sunken plazas, interactive meeting areas, and verdant outdoor spaces.
