10 Recently Completed Skyscrapers in New York City
New York City has seen several skyscrapers spring up in recent years, from the bronze-and-copper Brooklyn Tower by SHoP Architects in Downtown Brooklyn to Two Manhattan West, the final tower of a sprawling mixed-use development in Midtown Manhattan.
Completed in 2022 and onwards, these recent projects have shifted the city's skyline, while several other skyscrapers are currently under construction, are near completion and or have just recently been announced throughout the boroughs.
The 10 skyscrapers below include office towers, luxury condominiums and retail spaces, with some considered supertall skyscrapers, reaching up to 300 meters or taller.
The Spiral, Manhattan
by BIG Architects
The Spiral was completed in late October 2023. At 314 meters high, it features a slender line of terraces that wrap around its exterior in a spiral pattern, which the studio said was informed by a ziggurat. The 260,128 square meters structure will host offices and a private event space on the uppermost floor.
50 Hudson Yards, Manhattan
by Foster + Partners
Foster + Partners completed 50 Hudson Yards, a supertall office skyscraper that consists of 78 stories, in 2022. 50 Hudson Yards has a stepped envelope and a symmetrical facade with floor-to-ceiling glass. The 308-meter skyscraper contains 278,709 square meters of office space.
Olympia Dumbo, Brooklyn
by Hill West Architects
Completed by Hill West Architects in early 2024, Olympia Dumbo tower rises 122 metres and has 33 storeys. It has a wedge-shaped form and sits on top of an angular podium. The building's pre-cast concrete podium features substantial vertical elements inspired by the Brooklyn Bridge abutments and Dumbo's historic buildings, while the glass and metal tower provides a sail-like form.
Eagle + West, Brooklyn
by OMA
OMA created a pair of skyscrapers that consist of a series of stacked volumes. Part of the larger Greenpoint Landing development, the towers' rectangular volumes increase and decrease in size as they ascend on either tower and both are clad in precast concrete. Eagle + West comprises two highrises and a smaller building.
425 Park Avenue, Manhattan
by Foster + Partners
The "first full-block office building" to be built on Park Avenue in over 50 years, 425 Park Avenue was completed by Foster + Partners in 2022. The 47-story tower has an external structure that allows a column-free interior, most notable in its triple-height lobby. Alongside private office spaces, the 262.1-meter-high skyscraper incorporates several public spaces including a triple-height lobby, a restaurant and a showroom.
Two Manhattan West, Manhattan
by SOM
The 650,321 square meter Manhattan West development has been 20 years in the making, with the recent completion of office tower Two Manhattan West marking the project's final stage. Two Manhattan West mirrors neighboring office tower One Manhattan West, with both skyscrapers featuring curved corners, a glazed facade, subtly shifting volumes and expansive lobbies.
11 Hoyt, Brooklyn
by Studio Gang
Studio Gang completed the scalloped 11 Hoyt residential tower in downtown Brooklyn in 2022. The 189-meter skyscraper was clad with precast concrete panels that are positioned at different angles to give it an undulating effect. The 57-storey tower rises from a podium that surrounds the building, on top of which was installed a 2,508-meter private park.
611 West, Manhattan
by Álvaro Siza
611 West is a 137-metre-tall residential tower. The slender tower rises from a thicker base with a 16-meter windowless block. The 35-story building has 77 luxury condominiums with residences ranging from one to four bedrooms and a grand penthouse.
Steinway Tower, Manhattan
by SHoP Architects
Steinway Tower is the world's skinniest supertall skyscraper and the second-tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Accommodating a total of 60 residences, it reaches 435 meters into the sky and consists of a series of layered volumes that taper at the peak. According to SHoP, the tower was built with the highest-strength concrete in the world.
Brooklyn Tower, Brooklyn
by SHoP Architects
New York studio SHoP Architects has completed the black and bronze facade of the supertall skyscraper Brooklyn Tower, the tallest building in the borough. At 93 stories and 325 meters tall, the supertall skyscraper topped out in March 2023, but the intricate cladding of its exterior was only recently completed. Running the length of the tower are bronze and copper pilasters that give definition to the black facade, which at certain points comes to edges, creating a staggered appearance.
